August 19, 2021: Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, Inc, the US affiliate of Japanese giant Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, on August 8 said it would buy the UK-based firm Smarter Grid Solutions.
The deal is expected to be finalized within a few weeks.
SGS develops distributed energy resources management software for power utilities and operators and could make a good fit for MEPPI, which produces battery energy storage systems, UPS and electric generators, as well as other electrical equipment.
As the global mix of power supply changes with more decentralized power generation, largely because of renewable sources, controlling the flow is becoming increasingly tricky. This has opened up opportunities for firms that can offer solutions, such as SGS.
“We look forward to marrying SGS’s products with our suite of grid control products to help our customers respond to changes and still get the best performance from their electric grids,” said MEPPI president and CEO Brian Heery.
