March 23, 2023: Morrow Batteries said on March 20 it had agreed a long-term batteries supply agreement with BESS developer Eldrift.
The Norwegian firms said a non-binding offtake agreement committed Eldrift to buying 1.5GWh of Morrow’s batteries starting in 2024, when Morrow starts industrial-scale production at its gigafactory on Norway’s south coast.
The deal will support the enhancement of existing LFP battery chemistry and BESS technologies that will strengthen Norway’s aim to become a hub for Europe’s BESS industry, the firms said.
Morrow CEO Lars Christian Bacher said: “This collaboration will provide access to our cutting-edge battery technology and create new opportunities for innovation and growth in the energy sector, from Norway to Europe.”
Energy Storage Journal reported in February that Morrow had agreed to partner Optimeering to develop AI automation software for short-term power market operations.
Morrow and Optimeering plan an AI solution similar to an aircraft’s autopilot — automating a number of processes for batteries including timing, pricing and volumes when selling energy and capacity/system services to the markets.
