Ion Energy announces acquisition of BMS firm Freemens Energy Storage Journal

Indian headquartered energy storage Ion Energy announced on February 4 it had bought French lithium ion battery management system firm Freemens in a cash and equity deal.

Freemens’ engineering and sales employees will join the core team of Ion, with Alexandre Collet, founder and CEO of Freemens, becoming the Indian start-up’s vice president of engineering, as part of the deal.

Ion intends to grow its portfolio of customers in India, US and Europe, which includes Freemens’ 20 plus clients such as aerospace company Airbus Safran and electric vehicle firm CarWatt.

Collet said: “When I heard about Ion’s plan to build no-compromise storage systems, it reminded me of why I started Freemens in the first place.

“Partnering with Ion gives us the firepower to address a much larger market and increase our ability to service existing customers. Together we will build some deep technology to disrupt both the EV and energy storage markets.”
