April 29, 2021: Hitachi ABB Power Grids has signed an agreement with Atlas Renewable Energy to jointly develop battery storage systems at utility-scale level, Atlas announced on April 21.
The participation of ABB will support tenders launched by Atlas that introduce batteries as part of its technical offering.
“At Atlas, introducing batteries is an important step in elevating our projects’ technological edge, but our main priority is to have a successful integration,” said Juan Jose Bonilla, head of business development at Atlas.
“We aim to provide an even more tailored solution for our large energy consumer clients, whose energy needs may differ and intermittency of renewables can still be a major concern. Offering clean energy with a storage solution for each one of our projects provides a differentiated value that gives significant reliability and efficiency to our clients.”
Hitachi ABB Power Grids was formed less than a year ago, in July 2020, when Hitachi took over 80.1% of the Power Grids business of Swiss technology firm ABB.
It was touted as Hitachi’s biggest ever corporate deal, and the company also has an option to take over 100% of the firm after 2023.
