March 9, 2023: Green Giant Energy Texas is to partner ACE Green Recycling in building a commercial lithium ion battery recycling plant in the Houston area, the companies announced on March 2.
The plant will be built on land bought by GGE Texas, which will also invest $3 million for construction of the facility that will use ACE’s proprietary technology to recycle an estimated 1,800 tonnes of lithium batteries annually.
GGE Texas will invest a further $3 million to support ACE Green’s global operations.
The companies have signed a non-binding letter of intent to form a joint venture to develop and operate the Houston area plant.
ACE said last month that it had agreed a recycling equipment supply partnership for lead and lithium ion batteries with Italian lead recycler and engineering company STC.
That followed ACE’s December announcement of a partnership with Tabono Investments to build and operate battery recycling facilities for lead and lithium ion batteries in South Africa.
