EUROBAT gears up for Madrid Forum 1000 463 Energy Storage Journal

May 12, 2023. Europe’s aim to compete with the US in an investments tug-of-war over the batteries sector will be on the agenda at EUROBAT’s annual battery conference in Madrid next month.

The critical contribution of battery energy storage to Europe’s energy independence and latest moves to ensure raw material supplies for the EU’s gigafactory plans will be among topics discussed at the EUROBAT Forum on June 7, which will be opened by the association’s president, Marc Zoellner, the CEO of Hoppecke Batteries.

Ahead of the Forum, on June 6, EUROBAT members will gather for their annual general assembly.

“This year’s Forum event will see leading experts from the battery industry and value chain, as well as EU policymakers, academics, market experts and other leading voices, debate the key issues for the industry and Europe’s clean energy transition,” EUROBAT said.

Sustainability issues and the prospects for developing e-mobility will also be on the agenda.

According to analysis published on March 6 by clean transport campaign group Transport & Environment, nearly 70% of Europe’s overall planned pipeline of lithium ion battery cells production capacity by 2030 is at risk of being delayed, scaled down or cancelled.
