April 28, 2023: Investment in battery tech has the potential to supercharge Turkey’s economy, the country’s president said at the launch of an EV battery manufacturing plant in the country on April 24.
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan (pictured) was speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony for the Siro Battery Development and Production Campus in Gemlik — which will have a 20GWh battery cells production when it starts commercial operation in 2026.
Siro, a joint venture of China-based Farasis Energy and Turkish electric car manufacturer Togg, said the facility will manufacture lithium ion nickel manganese cobalt batteries, modules, and packs.
Erdoğan said: “Turkey’s progress on green technologies is important not only in terms of the environment, but also economically and strategically.
Investments in battery technologies especially “have the potential to change Turkey’s place in the world”.
