October 28, 2021: Battery recycling and distribution giant Ecobat has expanded its operations and range of batteries with the purchase of Belgian battery distributor Emrol, it said on October 18.

The deal achieves two purposes for Ecobat — a step into e-mobility and motive power markets, and a greater presence in the Benelux region.

“The acquisition perfectly complements our current operations allowing Ecobat to serve our customers in Europe with more diverse solutions and services for energy storage,” said CEO Jimmy Herring.

Emrol distributes what it describes as a ‘virtually infinite’ range of lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries. The company was founded in 1981 as an independent battery distributor without being tied to any specific manufacturer.

In August, Jamie Pierson was hired as chief financial officer for Ecobat, which the company said completed its new leadership team.

The appointment was made just after the company had expanded its recycling operations with the purchase of Germany-based lithium-ion battery recycler Promesa in July.

“It is an exciting and dynamic time at Ecobat,” said Herring. “With the acquisition of lithium-ion recycler Promesa, we are positioning Ecobat for solid growth in the coming years as our industry adapts for the future.”
