May 12, 2023: Echion Technologies has agreed a niobium-based anode material supply deal with Taiwan-based GUS Technology, the companies announced on May 11.
A memorandum of understanding gives GUS secured availability of Echion’s XNO niobium-based anode material and access to Echion’s electrochemistry support for cell design.
GUS is a specialist in lithium ion batteries, pouch cells and energy storage systems.
The memorandum was signed during the inauguration of GUS’s gigafactory, which the partners said is the first such facility to be built in Taiwan.
The agreement will also allow Echion and GUS to provide early access to battery cells and modules powered by XNO for a range of OEMs and end users.
Echion claims XNO enables lithium ion batteries to safely charge in less than 10 minutes, maintain high energy densities even at low temperatures, and deliver high power across a cycle life of more than 10,000 cycles.
The company’s chief commercial officer Ben Ting said the partners shared common ground in wanting to quickly deploy high performance batteries globally.
