May 16, 2019: A 6.6MWh lithium ion energy storage system to deliver grid frequency services will be integrated with a PV plant in Massachusetts, US, Italian firm Falck Renewables announced on May 7.
The $3.6 million project at Falck’s existing solar PV plant in Middleton will use an ESS supplied by NEC Energy Solutions.
Using solar energy, the system will provide on demand, sustainable and flexible services, said Toni Volpe, managing director of Falck Renewables.
Power utility Middleton Electric Light Department has entered into a long-term capacity service agreement with the Italian company to dispatch the ESS during periods of high demand charges on the power grid.
The system should be completed in the third quarter of 2019.
