January 10, 2019: A 20MW battery storage system is being added to a hydropower plant in Manila SN AboitizPower, a joint venture between SN Power of Norway and AboitizPower — a subsidiary of Aboitiz Power Corporation — announced on December 17.

The $28 million storage facility will supply ancillary services and standby power in case of black-out at the Magat Hydro Electric Power Plant.

Work on the project is to begin by 2020 and be completed within two years.

The project’s Ancillary Services Procurement Agreement still requires approval from the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines. It follows approval of a feasibility study by its board of directors.
